Dr. Robert Cathers, Jr. travels to Africa at least once or twice a year as a businessman and entrepreneurial leader. Well-known pastor Dr. Clyde Rivers invited Dr. Cathers to speak a seminar in East Africa at the end of 2006. When Dr. Cathers spoke on Biblical Financial Principles, local businessmen were enlivened by practical knowledge and applications. Once the word got out that these principles were working, the president’s son and local business leaders invited Dr. Cathers back for a business summit in 2007. This ideology comes as a breakthrough for most who were brought up with a notion that it was easier for a camel to jump through ‘the eye of a needle’ than for the wealthy to get into heaven. Dr. Cathers counters this notion and brings a very rational and concrete endorsement that money is not the root of all evil, but the love of money. “I believe, after my many years of involvement in finance, that greed and the lust of a thing are truly Satan’s foundation. There is a scripture that says the Love of Money is the root of all evil. It does not say money is evil - but to lust after a thing is a destructive force that can ruin your life. No matter where you come from or what your beliefs are, it seems that human beings from all walks of life understand there is power in giving and generosity. That it seems to open the doors of good fortune and prosperity,” states Dr. Cathers. During his seminars, he has noticed that although there is tremendous poverty in many of the African nations, there is a lot of entrepreneurship and hope. He states, “The biggest problems in these nations is that the people were taught what to think, not how. I find the biggest problem we have is getting people to think outside the box and what they have been trained to think. However, one in every three people in Uganda have an entrepreneurial spirit and some form of business.” Dr. Cathers speaks on the Laws of Sewing and Reaping, the Seven Laws to Create a Successful Business, and Paramount (based on his book. He has been featured on the front page of East African Business Week, interviewed on African Radio (one of the station’s highest rated radio shows of the year). He has also met with heads of state and presidents, as well as opening a Burundi Parliament Session.
